The Scottish Rite Masons, Valley of New Castle, is in the process of creating a 32nd degree Masonic Learning Center for Children with diagnosed dyslexia.
According to Howard Glovier, secretary of the Masonic Valley of New Castle, the center will open this fall in the Scottish Rite Cathedral on Lincoln Avenue.
"Hopefully we'll be open in the latter part of October or first of November," Glovier said. "We already have a number of applicants."
They have been turned over to Beverly Anderson, director of the New Castle center. Anderson is working at the Valley of Pittsburgh's learning center, where the waiting list for children to get into the program is about three years.
Once renovations at the cathedral are completed, Anderson's office will be located here.
"We envision the kind of program that gains momentum as it grows," explained Anderson, who is also looking for people interested in becoming certified as well as volunteer tutors. Tutors will be trained on a yearly basis.
Anyone interested in the tutor program may email Anderson at bkazzz@aol.com.
Applicants for students desiring to enter the program are available.
Inquiries may be directed to consistory office secretary at (724) 654-5800 for forwarding to Anderson.
