Center Director, Linda Martin, far right, recognized tutors Ann Londergan (left), Margie Sturar (2 nd left),and tutor-scholars- Cheryl Harris (center), Kay Skjelerup (4 th ) and Melanie Chambrone (5 th ) for their work with children at the Learning Center this past year. Lonergan and Stuart will use their training in their schools. They have completed their initial level certificates as well as advanced training certificates in the 32 nd Degree Orton-Gillingham program.

Two tutor-scholars have completed their initial 32 nd Degree Orton-Gillingham training and two will have completed by the end of the summer program. Unable to be present were advanced trainer Kate Moore and tutor-scholar Rosemary Nandzik.

Children who attended the Center were awarded certificates for their achievement. First year children recognized were Devin B. for progress in all areas with major improvements in word attack skills and red words; Jacob W for steady progress in his ability to work during the session and major improvements in passage comprehension and spelling; Derek B. for significant improvement in word attack skills, Timothy L. for being a willing, hard work after coming into the program half way through the year, Vicoria B. for becoming familiar with the ‘Rules and Tools” and improvements in passage comprehension, word identificatin and attack, and Matthew C. for his progress in all areas.

Second and third year children recognized werer Breanna C. for steady progress with improvements in word attack skills and reading several books. Matthew D. for imporvements in all areas and reading Robinson Crusoe. George N. for great strides made in work attack and spelling. Alec R for dilligent work and an average of 1.75 grades in all areas during his time at the Center. Trevor L. improved in all areas. He f ound word games are his favorite way to learn. Patrick W. improved his auditory skills and saw a grade and a half improvement in workd attack and passage comprehension. He has been reading several books this year as a result. Augusta S. improved 3 grade levels in her word attack skills as well as improved in her auditory processing skills. She has been reading Dracula.

The Central New York 32 nd Degree Masonic Learning Center is the second such center to be located in New York State and serves Syracus, Utica , Rome , and all of Central New York

We encourage anyone who has, or knows, a school-age child who is struggling to keep up because of poor reading and writing skills to contact the Center for an application.
